Volvo is investing not only in the electrification of its vehicle range, but also in software development. After all, we know that new generation cars are increasingly called computers on 4 wheels. Already today, models such as the Volvo EX90 and Volvo EX30 support OTA updates that introduce new features or improve existing ones. To advance its software strategy, the automaker announced the opening of a new software testing center located in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The new center has an area of approximately 22,000 square meters and an investment of SEK 300 million (approx. EUR 25.5 million) was invested in its construction. Initially, the new software testing center will employ about 100 people, and once the center reaches full capacity, this figure is expected to increase to 300 people. The site will eventually house approximately 500 testbeds and digital test environments, up from approximately 200 currently.

The new facility in Gothenburg will work closely with other engineering centers around the world that play a central role in software development, such as the recently opened Tech Hub in Singapore. Among Volvo’s software development efforts is work related to creating next-generation connectivity features. In addition to Krakow and Singapore, Volvo Tech Hubs are present in Stockholm and Lund (Sweden), as well as Bangalore (India). The brand can also count on major engineering centers in Shanghai (China) and Gothenburg (Sweden). Anders BellHead of Research and Development commented: This is a state-of-the-art facility that will be the center of our global software testing and verification activities. This center allows developers from all of our global engineering and technology centers to test software remotely 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I firmly believe that this new testing center will set a new standard for the automotive industry.
