For the unseeded Shelton, this is not the first high-profile achievement on the tour. In September, he played in the semi-finals of the US Open Championship in New York, where he had to concede superiority to Novak Djokovic of Serbia. At the beginning of the year, he also played in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open.
Shelton will be tied for a career high on Monday’s chart. He will take 14th place.
For the 30-year-old Russian, a former semi-finalist at the Australian Open (2021), this was the fifth final at the highest level. He lost for the second time, but before that he was the best in Dubai, Moscow (both 2021) and last year in Sydney.
